How to find cheap flights from the Balkans

The Balkans are a brilliant base for cheap travel around Europe. Low-cost carriers like Wizz Air and Ryanair have bases in the region and routinely sell one-way fares for the price of a nice dinner. Here's how to make the most of it.

Where to start

The most low-cost routes leave from:

• Belgrade (BEG) — a Wizz Air base with the widest choice
• Sarajevo (SJJ)
• Skopje (SKP)
• Zagreb (ZAG)
• Podgorica (TGD) and Tivat (TIV)

Three rules for the lowest price

1. Stay flexible on dates. A few days either way can halve the price — which is why Zbriši searches the cheapest days across the whole month.
